35,000 acre lake with 148 miles of shoreline, known for its crappie, largemouth bass, and bream fishing. "Thunder on the Water" festival held annually in June; location of Civil War redoubts and Civil War reenactments; offers outdoor recreation in locations such as Hugh White State Park, Cape Retreat, Carver Point, Cedar Point, North Abutment Campground, Choctaw Landing, Christian Camp North Mississippi, Dam Area Central, Grenada Landing A, Grenada landing B and Gums Crossing. 25 recreation areas with 254 picnic sites, 300 campsites, 16 boat ramps, 6 swimming beaches, picnic facilities, fitness trail, hiking trails, tennis courts, 18 hole "The Dogwoods" Golf Course and Grenada Lake Visitor Center's outstanding information on the lake and surrounding area; exhibit areas on flood control, war films, Native American artifacts, bottom land wildlife, 150 gallon fish aquarium with native fish; observation deck with beautiful scenic view of the lake and shoreline. This area consists of 330 areas of wetlands, bottomland hardwoods, waterfowl food plots, and moist soil units. The primary objective of this area is the development, restoration, and enhancement of waterfowl habitat with special emphasis on public access and environmental interpretation. Some of the wildlife in the area includes Fox, Gray Squirrels, White-Tail Deer, Swamp and Cottontail Rabbits, Beaver, Bobcats, Raccoon, Pileated Woodpeckers, Red-Headed Woodpeckers, Opossum, Quail, Mourning Doves, various species of Ducks and Wild Turkey. A 100 acre green tree reservoir and two shorebird wading ponds are also located in this area. Trails, bridges, and observation decks provide visitors with opportunities to view an assortment of wildlife. Displays provide information about wetland habitats and wildlife species. This area is closed to hunting.
